updated to Wordpress2.5

April 3rd, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

So finally i updated my blog with Wordpress 2.5 along with a bunch of blogs i owe. So this seems like the first post with the shinny new Wordpress 2.5 admin Panel. So whats special with wordpress 2.5 well here are the things that i like :

  • I love the new admin panel, finally we are free from the old boring admin panel
  • Great way to moderate the comments (too good)
  • Finally write a post opens up real fast (they had a problem it took a while to open write a post in previous versions)
  • My most favorite Tag’s are now well organized
  • Add Media options added to “write a Post” but i dont like the lightbox js they have used for the “Add Media” its slow and not that accessible in admin panel in my point of view.
  • Finally the admin panel css is well organized, well structured & easy to understand & i can change its colors too to refresh my self.
  • Media library looks nice & organized
  • I like the serious & a bit mac look of the panel
  • Its quite stable and my custom theme is working fine

So far i love what they have done now i hope they change the default theme as well, and i hope that HappyCog (the people behind the new WP design) come up with a nice looking default theme for wordpress too… as the Wordpress say “CODE IS POETRY” they proved it right ! keep it up people

webServer was down

March 28th, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

Had a little long downtime on my website, unfortunately my host “Dreamhost” had some problems and all my websites were down for a few hours ! Personally no one likes a downtime but one thing good is that Dreamhost do put up the status that the site is down so we dont bang our head in walls and spend hours figuring out if it was our mistake and how to fix it.

I have been planning to setup a home based web server, not a localhost i already have that but a real time web server which will host a website, it would be really cool and fun, so far i have done some of my homework on that.

So i ll publish what i learn and how far i go with it, here are a few nice tutorials i have found which i will use to deploy my own web server initially a windows one or if successful a Linux based webserver:

Things that i need

  1. A separate machine probably a P4 branded used = Rs : 8000 = $150
  2. A DSL always on connection which i already have 2MB = Rs : 2000 = $33
  3. A Fixed IP address which will be tough to get but will arrange that from ISP = Rs : 1000 = $16
  4. Install Linux or Windows

Tutorial on setting it up

  1. Installation of Linux now i am not sure of the distribution i should use anyone got a suggestion there ?
    1. Ubuntu
    2. Debian
    3. Fedora
    4. OpenSusi
  2. LifeHacker > How to setup a personal web server
  3. Open source Free Control panel for hosting , Cube Panel or lots of free hosting control panels a wiki

thought of the day

March 25th, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan
When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Wordpress! the next version

March 19th, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

Today i tested the wordpress 2.5 the new version which is at its brink of launch according to the a ‘sneak preview‘ post on the wordpress development blog the wordpress will be launching its new versions within days.

The good part is my fav designer Jeffery Zeldman & his team have joined up with wordpress to redesign its admin panel which is really user friendly and good to see a change, one thing i liked allot about the new version is its tagging management system they have introduced. Its not a system but an added functionality to manage your tags well. The bad thing is that wordpress has not changed its default theme yet which was created by Kubrik.

I have been working on & off on wordpress designs for about 2 years apart from that i have also worked with other CMS systems like drupal, cms Made Simple, Joomla but so far my fav have been Wordpress.
