The never ending story !

June 29th, 2006 by Zeeshan Hasan

I pray to God that some day he should teach our ISP’s how to provide good Internet services.

Many many months back when WOL(world on line) offered HOME DSL packages I was eager to get one and get my self free from the curse of Dial up connection(which never dials). Eventually after a lot of consideration I spend almost 4000 Rs ($67.00) for the modem plus 2200 Rs ($36.00) per month charges which is equal to 6200 RS ($100) to get a 256 K DSL connection with 2GB bandwidth limit.

I dreamed of having the Pakistan’s best internet connection from Pakistan’s so far best know ISP WOL(world on line). But another curse began… after every few weeks i had to call the WOL(world on line) customer service as my DSL wont work properly … the answer from there end was simple … there is distortion in your phone line, or you computer is attacked by spy wear that is taking away all the internet .. or you Internet explorer is corrupt… or there is some problem with you window’s XP…… and so on… i went over to Hafez center got the latest version of windows XP , installed the latest version of Norton Anti virus updated my windows XP and Norton antivirus with latest definition… scanned my computer checked it thoroughly and then decided to reuse my so called fastest DSL connection. Alas i had to call the customer support again as it wont work.. i told them how i got my computer fixed and how up to date it is with the current technology and guess what they say “Sir, there is problem with your phone line at PTCL end they can fix you problem”

I went to the PTCL guys , complained them numerously…. bribed there line man, spend many hours in there offices try to figure out a way to get my problem solved but it was worth nothing. A few weeks back my phone line went dead for like 10 days … and PTCL guys complained the DSL guys and the DSL people complained the PTCL guys. After 10 days it got back on and after like 4- 7 days i am again with continuous disconnection from DSL and i again called the customer service at WOL(world on line) and they again told me the same old fucking story.

I am so f#@king sick of this bullshit systems and this bullshit ISP’s but i cant do shit about it … i have written numerous letters to Managing directors as that’s the only way to communicate and haven’t received any response.

With systems like these how can one prosper in his goals … how our IT industry will flourish…… how I will make enough to support my self and my family….I feel disappointed at the PTCL and WOL(world online) and our Govt….. privitization of PTCL made no difference at all,

just a POST

It has been a rough weeks, i don’t know how many sites / designs I completed its getting difficult to keep a track of all work, probably some day I will. My portfolio launched collapsed as when i launched it last weekend many scripts & style sheets didn’t work the way i wanted so i had no other option but to scrap it and rebuild it from scratch… so further delays. Lesson! CSS / JavaScript behaves differently online & offline still investigation why!

Recently I am in negotiations in setting up a software / design production house in Pakistan / Lahore … in partnership… i have been dreaming of it for long and i hope that it gets fulfilled this year by the grace of Allah. Although I am not expecting that much and have my fingers crossed yet. But if it do then you guys will witness the building of a corporation GIANT as I am highly unsatisfied by the companies here who lack management / vision / organizational culture / Strategy & Planning.

Other news Microsoft Founder Mr. Bill Gates has decided to take a retirement from his job as Chief Architect and shift to just director position (in simple words just to collect the pay check and no work) well its good for him … probably he is also tired from the corporate world and now he should get a chance to enjoy his life. He is the richest man on the planet but if you keep on making so much money & success there is a chance you might get bored of it too and take a break (I am not talking about my self I wont :) )
