a movement of web (from web to web 2.0, web 3.0 ….. )

August 9th, 2007 by Zeeshan Hasan

In 2003 O’Really Media published a word “Web 2.0″ , the word picked up pace and immediately received tons of attentions, very soon the word “Web 2.0″ which has no meaning in technical terms became a slogan for revolution of web ! Sites like Flickr, YouTube, Netvibes and many more labeled themselves web 2.0. We the Designers became “Web 2.0 Designers” and added further cost to our invoices for being “web2.0 designers”, re-defined the design practices by re-introducing curves, using sharp colors, developing clean css websites that validates and passes accessibility. Developers decided to jump in and launched the word “AJAX” (which do have a meaning in technical terms) but it soon become a key element for web2.0 movement, Javascript effects, Javascript Frameworks,  MVC frameworks of Php and open source applications picked up pace with this movement. All this movement supported the word “Web 2.0″ and thus clients started to ask for project that are “Web 2.0″.

I am not against the word web 2.0 it did pick up allot of attention, we celebrated multiple innovations within years but so far there are “NO STANDARDS THAT DEFINE WHICH WEBSITE IS WEB 2.0 OR NOT”. Still when i refer to word web2.0 i can simply state improvement & innovation in the practices of web design & development. Acceptance of standards, study of Accessibility and usability, adding interactivity and building application that are no more boring ! Allot more can be added but i still insist on keeping it short as web is full of defination of web2.0 movement !

While roaming around on net i stumbled up on the term “Web 3.0″, yes after 2.0 there is always 3.0 it cant be 2.1 cause it wont make good marketing impact so the term “Web 3.0″ jumps up to the internet and its definition published on Wikipedia. “Web 3.0 is a term that has been coined with different meanings to describe the evolution of Web usage and interaction among several separate paths”. Thats a nice definition and says “anything is possible” but still what cound be the web 3.0.

We have done AJAX, used MVC, build tons of communities, added interactivity so whats next coming. Could web 3.0 be a “Semantic Web” an evolving extension of the WWW in which content can be expressed, and shared around the internet by software agents as well. Means a globally linked data that can be used, modified by multiple web applications working independently. My idea on developing a WII (Web Identification Number) where with one ID you can log on to any website on any domain might become possible. If Semantic Web gets through it can and might bring yet another revolution of web communication, centralization of information and re-using bits and bytes lying around the world wide web ! Could this be the web 3.0 movement ! time will tell ….

Rozee.pk sending spam mails !

Rozee.pk sending spam mails

We all know about our famous job site named “Rozee.pk” i have used it a number of times and it is being used by majority of IT houses here in Pakistan. In my opinion its one of the best well made and well maintained job site in Pakistan.

But lately Rozee.pk is violating my privacy by sending me un-wanted or un-registered e-mails usually known as “Spam”. When i signed up for rozee it didn’t ask me the question “do you want to receive notification for other services offered by rozee.pk”, i checked into my account setting to see if such an option exists but could not find any. Then i opened the e-mail and tried to find the sentence that states “To Unsubscribe click here” but no such thing exist in the e-mail they send about “World Human Resource Forum” event that is being held in Pakistan. I even made an effort to e-mail there support about the issue and so far have not yet received any response ! So is this the level responsibility Rozee.pk is offering to its consumers by violating there privacy, not following any rules and unfortunately living in Pakistan no one can put up a law suite against them on this issue!

Apart from reporting there e-mail address “mailbot@rozee.pk” as spam what option are we left with !
