Rozee announces 2008 job fair in Pakistan

February 24th, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

Rozee our favorite and the only Job site in Pakistan is holding another Job Fair 2008. Today i received an e-mail from them informing me of the upcoming job fair which will be hosted in three cities Lahore, Karachi & Islamabad.

Rozee announces 2008 job fair in Pakistan

One thing good about this years event in Lahore is that its invite only, previously the Job fair invited tons of people to the Job Fair as the Lahore’s have nothing important to do so to cut the time people just turned up for the event for the sake of it, weather they need a job or not. This turn over did seved its purpose for the advertisers and sponsor and Rozee according to some resources made a business of more then 2 billion, but the purpose of the Job Fair failed. The massive turn around didnt help the candidates to score a job neither it helped the companies find good candidates. So this year Rozee have placed a strict policy in Lahore only, only those will enter the Job fair who get invitations.

So how to get invitations, well its quite simple first you log in to rozee or register for a free account, then once you do that you will see a list of employees i.e. big time companies who have listed there jobs there, all the detail of Job’s is hidden except for designation, you apply for the Job’s if you CV is found eligible you would be invited for the Job fair and probably an interview will be conducted right on the spot.  This step is really good as this will filter all the people who are visiting just for the sake of it, all the people turning up for the Job fair will definately be professionals and the companies who paid heavily for the booth will definately have a good turn over of Positive CV’s and potentially good candidates for the job.

So far i haven’t decided to visit the job fair but part of me seems interested so most probably i ll try to grab an invitation if i get one. If i get an invitation and i go there i would definately cover up the event on my blog with pictures / updates of the live Job fair so keep checking .

LinkdotNet Bring Cheap DSL to Pakistan

February 16th, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

LinkdotNet an Egypt based company recently launched there operations in Pakistan. LinkdotNet one of the biggest ISP in Egypt was formed by a merger in June 2000, between Link Egypt and InTouch Communications to become LINKdotNET. In2007 LinkdotNet stepped in Pakistan and instead of investing in setting up a new infrastructure they acquired two of the top ISP’s in Pakistan WOL and Dancom .

LinkdotNet Bring Cheap DSL to Pakistan

LinkdotNet hold a strong market Position in Pakistan due to its parent company  Orascom Telecom which is also the parent company of Mobilink Pakistan(my fav company). Few months back LinkdotNet launched its DSL packages to Pakistan customers, and i must say the package offered by linkdotnet is way cheaper and way faster then any other ISP’s in Pakistan including Wateen Telecom which is still having a very negative reputation in Pakistan.

LinkDotNet Tarrif:

  • 256kbps DSL - Unlimited Data Limit - Rs 1200 / only
  • 512kbps DSL - Unlimited Data Limit - Rs 2000/ only
  • 1Mbps DSL - Unlimited Data Limit - Rs 3900 / only

Installation charges are I think Rs2000 and ofcourse Modem is free! [i paid 4000Rs for a Modem when i got DSL :( ...]
I had recently shifted to a cable internet package offered by World Call Cable Interent, and had shifted out of DSL package due to the data limit. I was previously using WOL DSL paying 2000Rs for a 512Kbps package with a 4GB data limit. Being addicted to internet it only took me 3 weeks to finish up the data limit and then refresh my account, keeping in view of my addiction to the net this had caused added cost to my Interent usage. So now , LinkdotNet has offered unlimited data usage on there DSL packages thus leaving behing, all DSL pakages offered by other ISP’s and even PTCL.

Before Getting DSL make sure

  • Your Phone Line should not have any Noise else your internet experience is ruined between PTCL & ISP
  • Noise in Phone lines causes multiple disconnections and slow speed access
  • Try to get a Ethernet based Modem from the ISP, USB based Modems suck big time and you cant make a network or attach wireless to it.
  • Never buy a DSL or internet connection with data limit you wont be able to download Movies, Music, Applications (I don’t buy DVD’s/CD’s  any more rather download latest movies / music from Torrents)

Adobe Air an Innovation connecting Web with Desktop

January 6th, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

Today i downloaded and installed Adobe Air, a project started by adobe previously know as Adobe Apollo. Adobe Air is a cross environment runtime SDK for building rich internet application using Flash, Flex, HTML and Ajax that can be deployed as desktop application. Adobe air seems like a new innovation that will open up doors to match and mix desktop application with the web applications. This seems like a foot step heading to wards the symatric web “a web where different application will work together”

Wateen Telecom Website

December 27th, 2007 by Zeeshan Hasan

When will our local corporations and the people in-charge of web in those corporations learn to build websites ? I was reviewing Wateen website and i noticed a small text on the footer of the website stating “Best viewed at 1024 x 768 in Internet Explorer 6+” and for a moment i thought they might be kidding, but the fact is its true Wateen’s website is only viewable best in IE 6+ ,  as i guess the person who made it have no idea that there is a browser outside IE called Firefox which is used by approximately 50% of the people, and of course if you open Wateen’s website in Firefox it not compatible and looses its alignment and a few other stuff :P. (check this link)

This is still shocking, the sentence “Best Viewed in IE” was used back in 90’s but time has changed web accessibility, cross browser compatibility and web standards are the core quality standards of every web applications but many of our local web have no idea on that. Some how the local market still thinks the flash header with animated pictures is the only thing that matters and should look good, but the fact is the person buying your product is not interested in that, he wants to know about your products he needs to find out the exact information, how much it costs how to order a nice FAQ section easy access to every corner, a link stating HOME apart from breadcrumb. So far the wateens website does not even clearly mentions how much the equipment costs for WIMAX internet, how to order, what is the equipment ? will it work with my Switch ? how many computers i can use? and lack of this information is helping wateen loose many potential customers as i asked a few of my friends with such questions and they had no idea on that some stated the equipment costs 18000 some said its costs 1000, those who thought its 18000 lost there interest in wateen and wateen lost a customer.

Wateen Telecom Launched finally

December 17th, 2007 by Zeeshan Hasan

Wateen Telecom a part of Warid Telecom International headed by  Mr. Tariq Malik recently launched the Wi-Max broadband internet, Wi-Max Broadband in simple terms is a wireless internet connection with a broadband speed (ie. 128K - 2MB). Pakistan is the first country around the globe where this technology has been launched.

The launch seems great with the package plan starting as low as Rs 250 for a 128K connection with 1GB limit and going upto 512Kbps with a 10GB limit. The installation charges which i am not sure are Rs 1800 for outdoor setup and Rs 1000 for indoor setup which is quite cheap.

So now there will be new packages annouced by the ISP’s providing DSL services as they are the one who will suffer due to the launch of wateen. I might not sign up for wateen as recently i switched to a broadband cable internet which is far more better then DSL due to unlimited data transfer rate. So if the ISP’s providing DSL need to survive the Wateen launch they would either have to remove the limit of data or lower there prices which is quite difficult as they already are quite low.
