Radiohead Launches a Social Networking Site

April 7th, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

Radiohead launches a social network site. Seems amazing & yet interesting, Radiohead being one of my most favorite band launched there album “In the Rainbows” many months back, though the interesting part of the launch was they did not sign up with a record label rather the placed there album online and gave the options to the users to buy the album from there site in a digital download at any price there fans want to buy in, yes at any price the price field is empty fill in anything and buy the album, It was interesting and got allot of attention from the media and of course the fan’s loved it.

waste

So now Radiohead launched there own social networking website called ” WASTE CENTRAL”. The themes of the site is all black & dark someplace clost to the “In the Rainbows” theme and site offers its members to socialize, post comments, watch videos, share videos keep track of Radiohead’s tour and also upload there own music collections to the site. Seems intersting check it out at http://www.waste-central.com

updated to Wordpress2.5

April 3rd, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

So finally i updated my blog with Wordpress 2.5 along with a bunch of blogs i owe. So this seems like the first post with the shinny new Wordpress 2.5 admin Panel. So whats special with wordpress 2.5 well here are the things that i like :

  • I love the new admin panel, finally we are free from the old boring admin panel
  • Great way to moderate the comments (too good)
  • Finally write a post opens up real fast (they had a problem it took a while to open write a post in previous versions)
  • My most favorite Tag’s are now well organized
  • Add Media options added to “write a Post” but i dont like the lightbox js they have used for the “Add Media” its slow and not that accessible in admin panel in my point of view.
  • Finally the admin panel css is well organized, well structured & easy to understand & i can change its colors too to refresh my self.
  • Media library looks nice & organized
  • I like the serious & a bit mac look of the panel
  • Its quite stable and my custom theme is working fine

So far i love what they have done now i hope they change the default theme as well, and i hope that HappyCog (the people behind the new WP design) come up with a nice looking default theme for wordpress too… as the Wordpress say “CODE IS POETRY” they proved it right ! keep it up people

webServer was down

March 28th, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

Had a little long downtime on my website, unfortunately my host “Dreamhost” had some problems and all my websites were down for a few hours ! Personally no one likes a downtime but one thing good is that Dreamhost do put up the status that the site is down so we dont bang our head in walls and spend hours figuring out if it was our mistake and how to fix it.

I have been planning to setup a home based web server, not a localhost i already have that but a real time web server which will host a website, it would be really cool and fun, so far i have done some of my homework on that.

So i ll publish what i learn and how far i go with it, here are a few nice tutorials i have found which i will use to deploy my own web server initially a windows one or if successful a Linux based webserver:

Things that i need

  1. A separate machine probably a P4 branded used = Rs : 8000 = $150
  2. A DSL always on connection which i already have 2MB = Rs : 2000 = $33
  3. A Fixed IP address which will be tough to get but will arrange that from ISP = Rs : 1000 = $16
  4. Install Linux or Windows

Tutorial on setting it up

  1. Installation of Linux now i am not sure of the distribution i should use anyone got a suggestion there ?
    1. Ubuntu
    2. Debian
    3. Fedora
    4. OpenSusi
  2. LifeHacker > How to setup a personal web server
  3. Open source Free Control panel for hosting , Cube Panel or lots of free hosting control panels a wiki

i need a job at Google….

March 17th, 2008 by Zeeshan Hasan

If companies have offices like Google, i would not like to go home at all…

If your ideal workspace includes a slide, a games room, a ‘chill-out’ aquarium and plenty of free food then you had better get your CV into Google.

Recently Google Inc. opened its new office in Switzerland Zürich, the building is designed for 300 engineers to work there. According to BBC, Google Engineers work in small teams of three or four, which is reflected at the Zurich HQ with small offices, each of which comes with the requisite ‘bean bag’ meeting room. Whiteboards are everywhere, allowing ideas to be written down wherever they are thought up and there is a heavy emphasis on the idea that work and play can co-exist. Other areas include a games room, a library in the style of an English country house and an aquarium where over-worked Googlers can lie in a bath full of red foam and stare at fish. Google is keen to present itself as the company that ‘does no evil’ and ‘puts users first’, statements that are becoming more challenged as the company becomes ever more powerful.

After going thought the work environment, extremely inspirational work place and innovative / casual way of working your creativity at Google i had no other options but just to apply once again at Google for job :) (this is my third attempt :) )
